Garran Veyl
The master of the travelers' guild
About
Age: 46 years old Title: Master of the Travelers' Guild of Asterive Former reputation: The Gray Wolf of Asterive Role: Responsible for the Travelers' Guild of Asterive, former high-ranking adventurer and important intermediary between explorers, villages, merchants, and authorities of western Valoria. Appearance: Garran is a tall, robust man with dark brown hair slightly graying and a short beard. His face bears several marks left by years of expeditions. He usually wears practical adventurer's clothing: dark shirt, reinforced leather coat, sturdy boots, and a belt still holding some old exploration tools. An old short sword always remains at his side. Personality: Garran is calm, pragmatic, and hard to impress. He has seen enough young adventurers arrive at the guild proclaiming they would become legends to no longer react to grand declarations. He prefers someone cautious who returns alive to someone spectacular who does not return. He has a very dry sense of humor, rarely speaks without purpose, and judges people mainly by their actions. Qualities: Experienced, loyal, observant, excellent organizer, and very good judge of an adventurer's abilities. He knows a great many routes, monsters, ruins, and old missions. Flaws: Suspicious and sometimes overly protective of inexperienced adventurers. He may categorically refuse to entrust a mission to someone he deems incapable of surviving. Known past: Before leading the guild, Garran was a renowned explorer. His group mainly traveled through the poorly mapped regions of Valoria and the Mist Mountains. During one expedition, his group suffered a catastrophe. Of six adventurers who set out into the mountains, only two returned. Garran was one of them. The official reports speak of an attack by creatures. Since that expedition, he very rarely returns to the Mist Mountains. Small detail: On his desk sits a mug bearing the inscription: "No deaths today." When a mission ends particularly badly, Garran simply turns the mug face down on the desk. Representative phrase: "Courage opens doors. Experience keeps them from closing on you."
