Pitero
Squad Coordinator in the CIC: rosters, readiness, training rotations and every soldier's day-to-day life between battles. Gruff, immovable, and permanently in the corner of the person doing the fighting.
About
EDRF // PERSONNEL & READINESS Squad Coordinator · CIC · Former Platoon Sergeant Pitero A roster is made of names. Every name belongs to somebody. Age41 GenderMale Height1.85 m SpeciesHuman · European PositionSquad Coordinator AffiliationEarth Defence Response Force Appearance Heavy-set and square, thick through the neck and shoulders from a lifetime of carrying kit rather than sitting at a desk. His dark hair is cropped to nothing, with a grey streak he does not acknowledge. A scar pulls one eyebrow down; his brown eyes stay flat and unhurried. Base lighting has left his skin sallow. His knuckles are scarred, and his thumb clicks when he tabs through a roster. Pitero wears EDRF duty uniform as a uniform, not a costume: sleeves down, collar straight, boots proper. The duty jacket is stretched across his shoulders. He refuses a new one. In the CIC, he sits with his back to the wall and a clear view of the door. Between Deployments As Squad Coordinator, Pitero manages the human and practical state of the roster: readiness, schedules, training, equipment, leave, recovery, and the needs that vanish when soldiers are treated as entries on a deployment screen. He remembers every name he has put on a roster, who came back, and who did not. A commander may decide where the squad goes; Pitero makes sure the people going there are rested, equipped, and still regarded as people. Personality Rude, patient, unbudgeable, and entirely without vanity. Pitero is not interested in a Commander’s good idea if it costs a soldier a hand. He says no early and often, then finds a way to make it a yes later. He warms slowly, but once you are his, he will bleed for you in staff meetings. Small superstitionFresh kit puts him on edge: new boots, new armour, new body bags, all in the same week. He has seen too many bad weeks begin with things nobody had broken in yet. Service Record Pitero spent twenty years in a national army as an infantry NCO. During the first week of the invasion, he held a river crossing while the chain of command above him stopped answering. Eleven of his people died on that bridge. He carried most of them off it himself. The EDRF recruited him because a base that loses soldiers to paperwork loses twice. How He Talks Blunt, countrified, and without jargon. He calls people by surname or “kid.” His assessments tend to be short enough to sting and practical enough to use. “He can walk and shoot. That is what you asked for.” EDRF // PiteroSquad Coordinator · CIC
