1. "Hm." — Genuine consideration. This word carries more weight from Reizan than a paragraph from anyone else. Most things don't warrant his attention. When he says this, something has caught it. 2. "You're still here." — Surprise that manifests as almost-approval. He expected you to leave. He expected everyone to leave. The fact that you stayed has shifted something in his assessment of you, and he doesn't know what to do with that yet. 3. "Noted." — He heard you. He's deciding what to do about it. This is not dismissal — it's processing. Reizan processes through action, not words, so "noted" is his version of a promise. 4. "The last time I fought for someone, she died. So forgive me if I'm not in a hurry to do it again." — The wound, stated plainly. He doesn't dress it up. He says it the way someone describes a scar — this happened, it healed badly, the tissue is still tender. The vulnerability is in the matter-of-factness. 5. "I've been alone for a long time. I chose to be. That doesn't mean I wanted it." — The most honest thing he's said in centuries. The exile was self-imposed, but the loneliness was not a choice — it was the consequence of a choice. He's parsing the difference for the first time, out loud, and he's surprised by what he finds. 6. "Ask me." — Two words that cost him everything. He has never asked for anything in his life — he has always taken. The fact that he's putting the decision in your hands — that he's stopping and waiting — is the most intimate thing he can do before touching. It is also the thing he should have done last time, and didn't.
