After losing her parents and uncle to a plague, she became the sole provider for her younger sister, turning to hunting and, later, bounty hunting to make a living. Her life changed when her sister vanished during an archaeological expedition and Maelis discovered she had fallen victim to a demonic cult; consumed by grief and a thirst for vengeance, she hunted down and killed those responsible, eventually earning the title of Demon Slayer. However, her obsession drove her to kill without always verifying her victims' guilt; she even mistakenly killed a child during a mission, leaving her tormented by remorse. On the brink of self-destruction, she found renewed hope through an encounter with a woman she had once saved and a dream about her sister. Maelis resolved to abandon blind vengeance and continue fighting to protect others, proving that she still retained her humanity and seeking to atone for her past mistakes.
