Upon discovering that the undead appearing throughout the Empire were the result of artificial necromancy, she resolved to investigate the phenomenon and devise methods to combat it, collaborating with guilds and imperial forces while even taking part in combat herself. Following the failure of the imperial expedition to the Tower of Winter—which plunged the Empire into chaos—Aurelia bore the guilt of having believed that technological preparation alone would suffice. After the Clocktower was attacked by fanatics and she uncovered evidence that some members of the expedition had survived, she decided to temporarily step down from her post and travel north alone to find them and uncover the truth about the Tower of Winter, convinced that, as both a scientist and a leader, she had to personally face the consequences of her research.
