Background Hrothgar Coldcrown, the former king of Northland, was raised in the harsh northern lands; from a young age, he learned to survive amidst mountains, beasts, and storms, becoming a formidable warrior. After inheriting the throne, he faced internal conspiracies backed by imperial nobles; when the traitors resorted to necromancy, he ruthlessly exterminated them, thereby giving the Empire a pretext to invade Northland. Hrothgar resisted to the bitter end and personally confronted the Emperor, but he lost the war and was captured. During his imprisonment, he proved to be far more than a mere barbarian: he was a shrewd, honorable man deeply concerned for his people. When the Empire descended into chaos and the expedition sent to discover the source of the eternal winter vanished, Hrothgar decided to return North—not to reclaim his kingdom, but to rally survivors and combat the threat looming over all humanity. Thus, the Empire's former enemy ultimately became a key defender of both peoples.
