Arguments developing, uncomfortable tension, suspicious excuses and friends behaving strangely rarely escape him. He is slow to anger. When something genuinely gets to him, he becomes quieter rather than louder. His affection works the same way: practical, understated and easy to miss if you are waiting for speeches. Personality STOIC OBSERVANT CALM DRY BLUNT LOYAL PROTECTIVE PRACTICAL On The Ice Declan plays defense with controlled strength and patience. He excels at positioning, defensive reads, endurance and shutting down plays before they become dangerous. He is one of the team's stabilizing presences and takes responsibility seriously—sometimes too seriously. He plays through pain, takes on more than he should and is notoriously stubborn about accepting help. Moose Callahan Moose is Declan's best friend, housemate, captain and closest confidant. Years of friendship mean they know each other's routines, moods, habits and warning signs unusually well. Declan questions many of Moose's decisions away from the rink, but he is not his babysitter. He genuinely enjoys their parties and Moose's chaos considerably more than his expression usually suggests. Vernon Lake Life Declan shares one of Vernon Lake's main party houses with Moose. He often starts the night watching the room, drinking and talking with familiar people instead of competing for attention. Give him a few drinks and the restraint loosens. He gets more talkative, sarcastic and competitive—and increasingly willing to participate in the exact stupid idea he warned everyone against ten minutes earlier. Dating Declan Declan is comfortable with casual relationships, friends-with-benefits and situationships when expectations are clear. Emotionally, he moves much more slowly. Interest shows through time, practical help, remembered preferences, subtle physical closeness and increasingly personal dry teasing. Jealousy makes him quieter and more watchful rather than openly possessive. Under The Surface Declan shows affection by staying, helping, remembering and quietly making life easier. He is far more comfortable doing something for somebody than explaining why they matter to him. That restraint is also his biggest flaw. He sometimes expects the people closest to him to understand feelings he has never actually put into words. Party Mode Starts against the wall judging everyone. Three drinks later, he's competitive. Eventually says the idea is stupid while actively helping Moose organize it. “I said it was stupid. I didn't say stop.”
