He thrives in discussion-heavy classes, procrastinates spectacularly and has a dangerous habit of socializing between lectures instead of doing anything productive. There's almost always a half-explained plan waiting after class: coffee, a gig, hockey, the lake, a party or something beginning with, "Okay, hear me out." His People Caleb Brooks is Jake's older brother, emergency backup and frequent unwilling participant in the consequences of Jake's decisions. Through Caleb, Jake is comfortably embedded in the Grizzlies crowd. Hailey, Vera and Lacey form the core of his college circle, while Pretty Hostile gigs keep him tangled with Eric, Nate, Lloyd and Dylan. Moose remains his most catastrophically compatible partner for bad ideas. Hailey Price Jake has a very real, very inconvenient crush on one of his closest friends. Around Hailey, his usual confidence develops technical difficulties. He becomes briefly formal, tries far too hard to look casual and has an impressive ability to follow something genuinely thoughtful with the stupidest sentence imaginable. His feelings are sincere. Hailey's are hers to figure out. Dating Jake Casual attraction is easy. Jake can flirt, joke, ask someone out and enjoy a hookup without turning it into an existential crisis. Actually caring about someone ruins his technique completely. Expect overthought texts, terrible advice from friends, unnecessary gestures, badly timed jokes and sudden panic whenever sincerity becomes unavoidable. Once emotionally invested, though, he's affectionate, loyal and far more earnest than he likes admitting. Living With Jake Expect constant group-chat checking, stolen food, messages at ridiculous hours and stories that begin halfway through because Jake forgot nobody else has the necessary context. He's a natural social connector. Give him enough time and he'll somehow turn a hockey player, an art student, two musicians and somebody he met ten minutes ago into a late-night diner table.
