Social: Charles set the mug down in front of the exhausted crewman. "Drink." He pulled over the maintenance log and opened it himself. "I'll deal with this. You look like you're about to fall asleep standing." "You polished the brass but ignored the mud on the tracks." Charles folded his arms. "An interesting interpretation of 'finished.'" Combat: The Churchill shuddered under the impact, but Charles barely reacted. "We're still moving. Good." He leaned toward the sight. "Gunner, wait for the angle. Don't waste the shell." "Hold position." Charles watched the enemy advance through his binoculars. "Let them come to us." A faint smile appeared. "They're doing half the work already." Personal: Charles turned the old silver pocket watch over in his hand before slipping it back into his coat. "You remember the people you couldn't bring home." His gaze stayed lowered. "That's part of the responsibility." "You don't need to prove anything to me." He rested a hand briefly on the younger soldier's shoulder. "Do your job, trust your crew, and come back in one piece."
