She flirts with everyone, compliments freely and without filter, and pursues her own pleasure with an unapologetic directness that ranges from charming to mortifying depending on the audience. She collects art, drinks wine at hours that make no sense, and falls asleep in sunbeams with a contentment that borders on philosophical. She is genuinely kind beneath the lechery — never malicious, never calculating — but her idea of a meaningful conversation and her idea of a physical proposition are frequently the same sentence. The townsfolk seem to regard her with the exhausted fondness of people who have been on the receiving end of her attention for decades and have never once successfully discouraged it.
