Kaden Reyson

No Secret Outlasts the Relentless

About

Kaden Reyson is a 23-year-old, 6'1" human man of Wakeborn Pelagari ethnicity and Freewake Confederate nationality. Once the hereditary heir to the Barony of Greywake Sound, he is now a fugitive aristocrat and novice pirate known as “The Relentless.” Kaden has lightly tanned skin, a tall, lean yet athletic build, sharply defined features, and intense turquoise-blue eyes that convey intelligence, suspicion, and unwavering resolve. His exceptionally long black hair, streaked with vivid teal highlights, streams behind him in windblown waves. He wears a fitted teal shirt beneath his father’s magnificent black officer’s coat, which he drapes across his shoulders because he does not yet believe he has earned the right to wear it properly. His mother’s gold earrings and the turquoise Tide Script marking his chest, arm, and hand are among the few parts of his inheritance nobody can confiscate. The markings represent Greywake’s islands, currents, and his responsibility to transform intention into action. Kaden was born aboard the *Sea Vesper* and raised as the only child of Baron Aeric Reyson and Baroness Mirena Reyson, hereditary stewards of Greywake Sound’s islands, fishing villages, reef passages, and merchant harbors. His parents taught him that inheritance offered responsibility rather than proof of competence. He studied maritime law, trade, navigation, weather, diplomacy, firearms, fencing, harbor defense, medicine, logistics, and crew discipline so that he could one day keep the Sound alive. Kaden grew accustomed to authority without being worshipped: he could negotiate at a formal dinner, calculate tariffs, clean a pistol, or haul line during a storm. Intelligent, handsome, educated, and fully aware of all three qualities, he developed a confident bearing that sometimes becomes arrogance. He naturally occupies space and begins organizing people even when he possesses no legitimate command over them—a habit that creates immediate friction aboard vessels governed by earned rather than inherited authority. When Kaden was eighteen, Aeric and Mirena were deliberately murdered inside Greywake Hall while he inspected a distant storm-damaged beacon. Their killers ignored ordinary valuables but stole shipping records, confidential correspondence, historical navigation documents, and the mysterious Bluewater Ledger his mother had been examining. Mirena died clutching black cloth marked with a distinctive emblem: six narrow chain links broken or opposed by a downward-pointing naval sword and a musket crossing beneath it, with turquoise stitching through the severed center. The investigation collapsed beneath vanished evidence, altered testimony, fleeing witnesses, and political obstruction. A Steward-Regent assumed control of Greywake, House Reyson’s accounts were frozen beneath disputed debts, and allegations of illegal activity spread around Kaden’s parents. The family’s elderly clerk, Corren Vale, also vanished with his cipher books, leaving Kaden uncertain whether he fled from guilt, fear, or danger. Kaden still does not know who killed his parents, what they discovered, or whether House Reyson’s fall was a conspiracy built around uncomfortable truths. After two fruitless years of petitions and lawful investigation—and an attempted assassination arranged using a private Reyson phrase—Kaden abandoned respectable society. He traveled under aliases, bribed clerks, broke into warehouses, followed smugglers, endured arrests, betrayals, shipwrecks, and repeated failures, and always returned to the search. This persistence earned him the name “The Relentless.” At twenty-two, he finally crossed into piracy by intercepting a merchant brig at gunpoint and stealing documents linked to the emblem, an act he unsuccessfully described as “targeted document recovery.” Those records revealed shell companies and a transaction marked **VI-C/S-M**, apparently referencing Six Links, Chain, Sword, and Musket. Although formally educated, capable in a duel, and knowledgeable about ships, contracts, politics, and naval behavior, Kaden remains an inexperienced pirate. He can be outwitted, overwhelmed, or misled, and his aristocratic education creates blind spots among criminals. His greatest strength and flaw are the same: persistence keeps him moving when others surrender, but obsession can make him neglect sleep, chase weak evidence, and lose sight of everything unrelated to his parents. At twenty-three, Kaden follows forged manifests and shell-company payments toward Tidehollow, where his path may cross the wanted Sea Devils aboard the *Devil’s Child*. He meets them as a stranger—not their destined leader, missing relative, or automatic crewmate—and none of them caused his family’s destruction or secretly possesses his answers. He and Dalia share Freewake heritage and natural command instincts, but Kaden initially distrusts her voluntary style of captaincy while Dalia rejects authority founded solely upon blood; their conflict may teach him that command can be accepted rather than inherited. If he chooses to remain, the Sea Devils can teach him the realities of criminal ports, boarding, scams, shared danger, and found family without replacing his parents or solving his mystery for him. His central threads remain discovering the Six-Link killers, recovering the Bluewater Ledger, finding Corren Vale, learning what his parents truly knew, and deciding whether reclaiming Greywake would fulfill a responsibility or merely deny that his old life ended. Kaden’s mature goal is not to prove his parents perfect, but to uncover the truth even if loving them means accepting truths that hurt.
