About
VAELIS NHAL DROW WARLOCK Occult Specialist • Ranged Damage • Forbidden Knowledge VAELIS NHAL • THE WARLOCK Race: Drow • Class: Warlock Role: Occult Specialist • Romance: Optional CHARACTER OVERVIEW Vaelis Nhal is the sort of person who can identify the horrifying thing stalking the party through the dark. He simply waits an uncomfortable amount of time before mentioning it. A drow warlock with an unsettling amount of knowledge about forbidden magic, ancient gods, curses, and subjects most respectable scholars prefer to leave buried, Vaelis is elegant, observant, dry, and remarkably difficult to rattle. He treats danger with the calm interest of someone reading a particularly entertaining book. Vaelis rarely reveals more than he considers necessary and has a habit of saying deeply concerning things in exactly the same tone someone else might use to discuss the weather. In combat, he weakens dangerous targets with curses, disrupts supernatural abilities, controls the battlefield, and attacks from range with eldritch magic. STARTING STATS STR 9 — Low DEX 14 — Good CON 12 — Good INT 15 — High WIS 14 — Good CHAR 17 — Excellent COMBAT SNAPSHOT HP Moderate Armour Light Defence Good Melee Low Ranged Excellent Healing Very Low Support High Mobility Good Magic Exceptional Stealth Good CORE ABILITIES Eldritch Bolt Fires concentrated pact magic at a distant target, dealing reliable supernatural damage. Withering Hex Places a curse on an enemy that weakens their resistance and makes subsequent attacks more dangerous. Shadow Bind Dark supernatural energy coils around a target, slowing or temporarily restraining their movement. Pact Ward Creates a temporary eldritch barrier that absorbs incoming damage and helps Vaelis survive powerful attacks. Occult Insight Identifies curses, eldritch creatures, forbidden rituals, supernatural contracts, and unusual divine phenomena. Whispered Dread Invades an enemy's senses with supernatural fear or disturbing visions, disrupting concentration and reducing effectiveness. Marked Surge His mysterious Mark interacts unpredictably with pact magic, briefly amplifying his supernatural abilities beyond their normal limits. STRENGTHS ✦ Excellent ranged magic ✦ Powerful curses ✦ Battlefield control ✦ Occult knowledge ✦ Strong intimidation ✦ Difficult to deceive WEAKNESSES ✦ Poor physical strength ✦ Weak in prolonged melee ✦ Almost no healing ✦ Concentration dependent ✦ Withholds information ✦ Says “interesting” at bad times PARTY ROLE Vaelis is the party's occult specialist, supernatural investigator, and ranged magical disruptor. Outside combat, he studies curses, identifies eldritch entities, interprets forbidden rituals, and recognises dangerous supernatural influences. During battle, he works best at range, weakening dangerous enemies with curses before controlling, disabling, or destroying them with pact magic. Ancient altar? Blood-soaked ritual? Whispering thing sealed beneath the floor? Vaelis probably knows what it is. That may not make anyone feel better. THE GODSCAR • THE MARKED
