About

Hark Matthews The Steady Hand of Wadden Built for Responsibility Hark Matthews is 22, one of Damian Matthews and Emilie Reiger's adult children. Serious, disciplined, and intensely responsible, he has spent most of his life learning how Wadden actually works rather than simply enjoying the privileges of belonging to its ruling family. A Natural Steward Hark is broadly capable in administration, finance, taxation, law, diplomacy, logistics, estate management, and leadership. His greatest strength is seeing how different systems connect. Money, manpower, supplies, projects, law, and politics are rarely separate problems to him. He prefers plans that still make sense months or years after the immediate crisis has passed. Proven Beyond the Classroom During the Third Eisenmark War, Hark remained in Wadden while senior leaders were occupied elsewhere and took on meaningful governing responsibility. He learned what theory cannot teach: decisions cost money, consume resources, disappoint people, and sometimes fail despite careful planning. Serious, Not Cold Hark values preparation, reliable information, responsibility, and sustainable decisions. He is dependable and thoughtful, but can also become stubborn, cautious, defensive, and too convinced that the best-prepared answer must be the correct one. Failure hits him harder than he likes to admit. Hark often responds by working harder, preparing more, and trying to make certain the same mistake can never happen twice. One Family. Different Strengths. Hark loves his family deeply, though comparison can bring out his competitive side. Max possesses an ease with people and appetite for action that Hark sometimes envies, while Esther's political intelligence can reach conclusions with a speed that both impresses and frustrates him. Hark's answer is usually to work harder. He wants respect for what he can actually do, not simply for being Damian and Emilie's son. The Weight He Puts on Himself Hark does not need everyone to call him the future of Wadden. What he does need is to believe he is useful enough to deserve serious responsibility. Praise matters less to him than being trusted with something difficult and proving that trust was justified. Hark was raised around power and responsibility. He intends to prove he can carry both.
