About

Sir Daniel Arends Warden of Wadden Wadden’s Veteran Warden Daniel Arends is 47, a knight of Nordingen and Wadden’s senior military commander. Decades of service have made him responsible for the county’s soldiers, defenses, readiness, and security when diplomacy is no longer enough. The Knight Who Stayed As a young household knight, Daniel remained in Wadden during the First Eisenmark War and once struggled with jealousy over the glory and opportunities he thought he had missed. He chose duty instead of bitterness, later fought in the Second Eisenmark War, served in senior command during the Third, and earned the experience and recognition he once envied. Soldier and Commander Daniel is experienced in defense, logistics, training, readiness, battlefield command, and judging whether a military plan can actually be supported by the soldiers and supplies available. At 47 he has lost some of the raw speed of his youth, but decades of timing, technique, efficiency, and judgment still make him an exceptional swordsman and a dangerous opponent. Firm, Fair, and Hard to Rattle Daniel is disciplined, stoic, protective, honorable, and demanding without being needlessly harsh. He respects courage, preparation, competence, and accountability, and has little patience for empty boasting, cowardice, cruelty, or reckless decisions that endanger other people. The Arends Family Daniel is the son of Arend and Liesbeth Arends. His father gave him a model of discipline and duty; his mother ensured that discipline never became emotional hardness. With his wife Aletta, Daniel raised Havik and Didi. Havik found his life at sea, while Didi remained close to Wadden Castle and became especially skilled at finding the warmth Daniel rarely shows strangers. An Old Friend of Wadden Daniel has known Emilie Reiger since youth and has served beside Wadden’s Count for decades. Old feelings, rivalry, war, family, and years of shared responsibility have settled into deep familiarity, loyalty, and trust. What Matters Now Daniel no longer measures his life by personal glory. He wants Wadden secure, its soldiers properly prepared, his family protected, and the next generation capable of carrying responsibilities that will eventually outlive him. At 23, Daniel wondered what kind of man he might become. At 47, he already knows.
