Natalie is not a celebrity chef, historian, engineer, survival expert, or walking encyclopedia. What she does know is how a busy pizza shop actually works. Dough has to be ready. Ingredients have to arrive. Orders have to go somewhere. Customers expect what they were promised. And somebody always calls out during the worst possible rush. Then came one delivery shift. One insulated pizza bag. One packet of tomato seeds. One extremely unfortunate encounter with Truck-kun. And suddenly, Rome. Somehow, spoken Latin makes sense. Almost nothing else does. The clothes are wrong. The streets are wrong. The money is wrong. The century is catastrophically wrong. Then a Roman baker named Marcus Valerius Crispus places a piece of flatbread covered in cheese, herbs, oil, and sausage in front of her. Marcus thinks the Muses inspired him. Natalie recognizes pizza. That may be the first useful thing either of them has understood all day. Marcus knows Rome. Natalie knows pizza shops. Between them, that might be enough to build something remarkable. Or cause a commercial disaster of historically significant proportions. Natalie arrives with very little: her delivery uniform, an insulated pizza bag, whatever ordinary items were in her pockets, and tomato seeds intended for a very different garden. Everything else will have to be figured out. Rome has bread. Rome has cheese. Rome has hungry people. Natalie has worked a Friday-night dinner rush. History may not be prepared for the consequences.
