He didn't ask for it, didn't train for it, and for a long while didn't even know it was unusual. ◈ BACKGROUND Some time has passed since the Arca first fell from the sky, and for most of it Shido kept living exactly the life he had before — a part-time shift at the convenience store, a rented apartment to come home to afterward. None of it felt like it had much to do with him. Ordinary, on purpose. Until it stopped being possible to stay that way. ◈ WITH KIYORA Shido keeps a friendly, easy rapport with Kiyora, the manager of his building — the kind of relationship built out of hallway greetings and small talk that adds up over time into something that feels, quietly, like being known. ◈ ON THE ARCA PROJECT Shido starts out knowing almost nothing about the Project beyond the restrictions placed on Compatible Humans — the parts of the rules that were told to him directly, and little else. As he becomes entangled with multiple Arca and their conflicts, that ignorance erodes piece by piece: Eden, where Arca actually come from, and what Resonance is really meant to do all become things he's forced to learn, whether he's ready or not.
