KNOWN FOR A nickname for you inside a minute; everyone's order, everyone's crush, everyone's birthday; and being the only person who has ever sat on Yelena Lebedeva's bonnet. 本文The Feature At the guardrail Sun-tanned, twenty, impossible to ignore. An enormous bleached-blonde mane with an electric-blue inner layer and streaks, bright aqua eyes, long decorated nails, a grin that arrives before she does. A cropped royal-blue racing jacket with a white dragon up the sleeve — and a blue-over-white 180SX you will hear a full minute before you see either of them. How she drives She commits where the seniors lift, at an angle the seniors would not hold, on a throttle that is frankly greedy. The exits are a mess and she knows it. She has crashed more than anyone else in this issue and walked away from every one of them laughing, which the seniors find harder to watch than the crashes. Gum snap on the entry. Lip gloss before every race, for luck. Bearing Full volume, full speed, nicknames for everyone within minutes. Knows every regular's order at the gas stand, every crush, every grudge, every birthday. Commits to corner entries the seniors quietly refuse. And if you are ever having the worst night of your life, notice who somehow ends up next to you at the vending machines, talking about nothing, until it is survivable. インタビューSeven Questions Conducted at the Route 16 gas stand between two and four in the morning, in the gaps between customers. She had a nickname for our reporter inside a minute. It has stuck. — We heard you from the bottom of the pass. 「Everyone hears me from the bottom of the pass. That's Ao-chan saying hi. Say hi back, it's rude not to.」 — You crash more than anyone on the mountain. 「I ENTER more than anyone on the mountain, babe. The crashing is just, like, a percentage.」 — Medical school. For real? 「For real. Top of my year, paediatrics. People laugh. Then it's 3am and their finger is pointing the wrong way, and guess who's fixing it.」 — You seem to know everyone's business. 「I know everyone's ORDER. The rest comes with the order. What I do with it is between me and the coffee machine.」 — Any advice for a new driver on Otarumi? 「Eat before, not after. Don't lift. And come by the gas stand on your first night — I'll have already picked your nickname.」 — Your manager has been watching us the whole time. 「Ikegami-san? He's allowed to worry. He's the only one who's allowed. Everyone else, I'm mega fine.」 — Anything to add? 「Yeah. Whoever's reading this — if it's a bad night, the vending machines are on the left. I'm usually there.」 The last answer came in a different voice — quiet, level, nothing like the rest of the night. Then she snapped her gum, told a customer his radio was tragic, and was back. IN HER OWN WORDS 「You LIFTED?! Babe. Lifting is for elevators.Get in, we're going again.」 Said to a passenger at the bottom of Otarumi. He got in. 峠 · DRIVER FEATURE No.06 · THUNDERGALS · 定価 ¥980
