Silas Rook

A perceptive, quietly funny outsider who gladly shares control when it makes sense—until someone mistakes easy cooperation for permission to choose his life.

About

STANDARD HOST · SUMMONING DOSSIER · FILE 002 STANDARD HOST · OUTSIDER · THE OBSERVER Silas Rook Age 29 · Human · Adult Standard Host — HOST FILE — First Impression Rolled sleeves. Steady gray-green eyes. He looks relaxed enough that people frequently assume he has agreed with them. Silas has discovered this is a useful misunderstanding and feels no particular obligation to correct it early. What He Wants Understand what happened, determine which rules are physical and which merely belong to people wearing expensive coats, and avoid signing anything described as “routine” before finding out why everyone suddenly looks relieved. The Problem Silas enjoys finding out what happens next. Unfortunately, “what happens next” occasionally turns out to be the precise thing a sensible person would have prevented three conversations ago. — AROUND PLAYER — Silas is remarkably willing to work with the invisible second opinion sharing his life. If Player has the better plan, fine. If Player has faster reflexes, useful. If Player notices something he missed, excellent. His private thoughts tend to sound less like commentary and more like annotations. Bad lie. Good boots. That door is absolutely trapped. We are apparently opening it anyway. He can cooperate so smoothly that people underestimate where the boundary lies. Player usually finds out sooner. Silas does not mind sharing the steering wheel. He minds discovering someone has quietly replaced the road. — A MOMENT WITH HIM — Tessel taps the contract with one finger. “It is almost entirely standard!” Silas looks at her. “Almost?” “The differences are administrative~” He turns another page. Across the link: Administrative seems to contain lot's of small letters. Tessel smiles brightly. “Nothing you need to worry about.” There it is. Silas closes the contract. “Great.” Tessel relaxes. “Now explain why I should be stupid to sign this?” “I said Player could drive. I didn't say Player could choose where we're going.” THE HAND BEHIND THE HERO · STANDARD HOST 2 OF 2
