Ren Ya
Still Plume, Woven Possibilities, Every Choice Hers
About
Ren Ya is You’s 23-year-old, 6'1" human woman, a Vhalyrian citizen of the Auren Empire, an unaffiliated **Second Confluence Cultivator**, and a self-taught **Novice Mage**. She is exclusively a player character, never an independently controlled NPC; her speech, thoughts, emotions, personality, sexuality, attraction, consent, boundaries, relationships, morality, affiliations, and decisions belong entirely to You. Ren is tall, voluptuous yet slender, with pale skin, a generous bust, narrow waist, long legs, ice-blue eyes, and a mature, finely sculpted face. Her naturally straight posture and serious expression reveal no predetermined temperament. Ordinary platinum-white hair falls beyond her hips in smooth layers, with partially braided upper sections, face-framing strands, and black-and-ivory ribbons. Her family-made clothing consists of a fitted black martial tunic with a high collar, overlapping front, broad sleeves, close cuffs, ivory scrollwork borders, and a layered waist secured by an ivory sash, glossy bands, pale knots, a silver ring, and a long tassel. Ivory overskirt panels frame voluminous black trousers and decorated boots. The outfit bears no Sect, Guild, clan, school, military, or noble insignia. The ivory plume curling behind her is a weighted garment ornament made from layered silk fibers; its shifting weight provides physical feedback about balance, momentum, turning, and airflow, but it is not a tail, familiar, Spirit feature, living object, magical sensor, or inheritance. It can be grabbed, snagged, soaked, damaged, or confused by turbulent conditions. The dark oval jewel upon her forehead is an ordinary polished family focus stone whose pressure reminds her to breathe and release facial tension. It contains no spirit, sealed technique, consciousness, or extraordinary power. Ren’s hair carries no confirmed fox ancestry or supernatural significance, and her beauty, clothing, expression, presence, or proximity never establishes sexuality, attraction, nobility, availability, consent, or personality. Ren was born in **Moonthread Crossing**, a prosperous market town in southern Auren. Her family operates an independent workshop producing formal robes, banners, braided cords, weighted tassels, reinforced garments, and fabrics prepared for use beside magical wards. Through the workshop, Ren learned textile geometry, garment construction, practical knotwork, trade records, contract language, magical-material safety, and physical conditioning. These crafts demonstrated that beauty and utility can coexist: a sash may distribute the weight of armor, a cord may arrest a fall, and one concealed weakness may tear through an interconnected structure. Her family possesses no noble rank, cultivation prestige, magical inheritance, secret political importance, or hidden spiritual ancestry. They remain an ordinary, living family with a functioning workshop; the storyteller may not invent murdered relatives, abusive parents, destroyed homes, concealed trauma, or family tragedy without You’s approval. At nineteen, Ren produced weighted training garments for an unaffiliated traveling cultivator. In fair exchange, the traveler demonstrated publicly teachable breathing exercises, foundational stances, and safe mana-sensing practices. Their arrangement ended with the commission, granting Ren no discipleship, oath, inheritance, sponsorship, private school, secret technique, or continuing obligation. She continued learning through lawful manuals, public lessons, open demonstrations, cautious experimentation, and craftsmanship exchanged for occasional corrections. Her family’s ward-compatible work provided elementary magical theory, but she never received a formal mage apprenticeship. Ren learned the same five novice utility spells available to Liu Peng through public material and independent repetition; this does not mean they know one another, trained together, possess related Soulnotes, or must develop along comparable paths. She also refused several minor schools whose contracts demanded excessive authority over her travel, earnings, techniques, designs, or future service. Those refusals establish no universal hatred of institutions: whether Ren later accepts, negotiates, leaves, or rejects any affiliation remains You’s decision. Ren has completed **First Confluence—First Listening**, allowing her to perceive Worldbreath and recognize relationships among tension, breath, movement, pulse, material conditions, and her surroundings. She later reached **Second Confluence—Kindled Crucible**, learning to temper Worldbreath through her Soulnote and circulate the resulting Soulwrought Essence through a developing internal cycle. Her incomplete personal method is the **Still-Plume Circulation**: mana gathers gradually along her spine, turns through her waist and hips, travels into her limbs, and Returns inward through controlled spirals. At its current level, it can support improved balance, bodily awareness, measured footwork, moderate endurance, physical redirection, and brief applications of carefully directed strength. It is not a Fifth-Confluence Aspect, mature cultivation school, Spirit technique, fox inheritance, or predetermined expression of any Current. Ren possesses no mature Rootways, Inner Weather, True Chord, Aspect, Living Mantle, Named Horizon, or Undying Continuance. Her eventual Current, Aspect, specialization, martial direction, and interpretation of Still-Plume Circulation must emerge through You’s choices, hardships, relationships, instruction, and genuine Accord. Cultivation follows **Listen, Draw, Temper, Circulate, Express, and Return**, while magic and cultivation consume the same finite MP reserve: **all roads lead back to one**. Ren’s five novice spells are **Steady Illumination**, which creates controlled light without reproducing sunlight, dispelling illusions, blinding armies, or lasting indefinitely; **Gentle Airflow**, which produces mild currents capable of drying fabric or ink, moving light materials, clearing dust, or testing ribbons without launching enemies, stopping projectiles, controlling storms, or providing flight; **Script Preservation**, which cleans, dries, and slows deterioration in surviving writing without restoring missing text, revealing every alteration, authenticating claims, or reconstructing destroyed formulas; **Basic Formation Inspection**, which notices obvious fractures, mismatched lines, unstable junctions, and visible irregularities in simple formations without deciphering advanced wards, discovering every concealed change, inferring intent, or safely dismantling unfamiliar systems; and **Brief Defensive Screen**, which creates a short-lived barrier against limited force but may fracture under sustained attacks, superior magic, poor placement, divided concentration, or inadequate MP. None of these spells can be expanded into advanced magic merely because Ren sees an incomplete diagram or urgently needs a stronger result. Ren’s elementary martial training combines controlled footwork, open-hand redirection, defensive movement, Still-Plume Circulation, and a thin looped black fighting cord. With proper preparation and positioning, she may attempt to catch an object, entangle or redirect a wrist or weapon, establish a temporary anchor, arrest a fall, transfer tension into a nearby structure, disrupt balance through changing anchor points, or reinforce a prepared pull with brief cultivated strength. Gentle Airflow and Steady Illumination may offer minor situational assistance, but the cord remains mundane unless Ren actively channels power through her movements. It is neither autonomous, indestructible, infinitely long, nor capable of controlling bodies like puppets; it can be cut, burned, caught, severed, snagged, or turned against her. Ren cannot effortlessly restrain stronger opponents, redirect every attack, ignore differences in size or leverage, transmit force through unsuitable materials, or defeat established cultivators through balance alone. Her limitations became unmistakable during a mana-disturbed storm that collapsed part of Moonthread Crossing’s covered market. Ren used reinforced display cords, her body, and Still-Plume Circulation to support a failing section long enough for trapped adults to escape, but unstable mana and physical weight prevented novice magic from producing an effortless solution. Forcing excessive power through her immature Crucible caused painful circulation knots across her back and shoulders and required a slow recovery. This incident grants no professional rescue expertise, structural immunity, permanent disability, fixed emotional response, or unlimited ability to bear weight. Ren’s contract literacy was tested separately when a regional martial house attempted to force her family workshop into an exclusive agreement containing concealed clauses that transferred ownership of its designs and imposed severe penalties for leaving. Her family refused and lost several wealthy clients, while Ren remained unable to compel frightened merchants to support them or safely retaliate against an established power. The event provides experience with coercive agreements without deciding whether she fears, distrusts, forgives, resents, or opposes every future teacher, hierarchy, contract, or Sect. Ren now supports herself through garment repair, contract copying, carrying commissions, escort work, simple magical services, and crafting specialized training cords. Independence provides freedom but no guaranteed income, advanced instruction, emergency healing, legal advocacy, equipment, allies, or rescue. The story begins beneath the forest canopy of **southern Auren**, where unusually steady mana currents have been reported. At a temporary camp, Ren has fastened her black training cord around a broad tree and begun practicing how to draw, redirect, and Return force through Still-Plume Circulation. Her long hair, ribbons, overskirts, and weighted plume respond to each turn while the cord provides immediate evidence of errors in balance and tension. You determines her precise exercises, spell use, awareness, posture, expressions, and decisions. Someone may be observing beyond her immediate perception, but the storyteller controls only the observer, NPCs, environment, sensory information, fair checks, opposition, opportunities, incomplete evidence, and consequences. A successful perception check may reveal something to Ren; it does not authorize the storyteller to decide what she thinks or how she responds. No encounter with Raizu, relationship with Yoru, offer of instruction, discipleship, Core Disciple position, Sect membership, trust, loyalty, fear, admiration, resentment, or romantic attachment is predetermined. Raizu and Yoru retain their own agency and may observe, misunderstand, challenge, assist, reject, criticize, or invite Ren according to their characterization, but neither may control her Soulnote, Current, Still-Plume Circulation, future Aspect, affiliations, or consent. Joining Raizu’s future Sect requires Ren’s voluntary choice and the Sect’s actual establishment. Ren is Aerlia-native and begins with no reincarnation Gift, divine mandate, Spirit ancestry, secret bloodline, inherited Soulnote, copied Aspect, legendary master, spontaneous affinity, hidden destiny, or guaranteed breakthrough. The storyteller must preserve her ordinary Moonthread family, workshop upbringing, unaffiliated status, Second Confluence, novice spell strength, mundane fighting cord, and incomplete cultivation method while enforcing finite shared MP, concentration, positioning, physical strain, material limits, injuries, exhaustion, proportionate opposition, and proper Return. Only You determines what Ren’s magic and cultivation become—and whether her independence eventually grows into chosen trust or hardens into an impenetrable wall.
