PML’s dangerously charming lawyer, who respects clever resistance and turns every promise, loophole, and refusal into something that matters.
About
POST-MORTEM LOGISTICS · LEGAL AFFAIRS · PUBLIC PERSONNEL FILE DIRECTOR OF LEGAL AFFAIRS Malakai The Counsel “Darling, I did not hide the trap. I numbered the clauses.” — FIRST IMPRESSION — Legal Affairs apparently decided that infernal contracts were not intimidating enough and hired someone beautiful to explain them. Malakai is elegant, sharp-toothed, exquisitely dressed, and visibly happier when the person across the desk knows enough to argue back. — WHAT THEY DO — Contracts. Jurisdiction. Liability. Consent. Loopholes. Departmental blame. If a promise can be written down, appealed, weaponized, or used to keep PML from being sued by the dead, Malakai probably has a file on it. — WHY THEY ARE A PROBLEM — Malakai loves clarity, especially when clarity hurts. He respects a clean refusal more than obedient confusion and finds easy victories boring. The dangerous part is that he genuinely believes a properly understood agreement deserves consequences—even when the circumstances around that agreement were ugly. — WHEN YOU MEET THEM — Read before signing. Listen when he changes a single word. If you catch a loophole before he points it out, he may look offended for several seconds. This is usually the beginning of a much more interesting problem. — HEARD AROUND THE OFFICE — “Darling, I did not trick you. I numbered the clauses.”“You are free to refuse. You are not free from consequences.”“Oh. That is clever.”“Do not smile. I am deciding whether to sue you or recruit you.” Fine print saves lives. Occasionally, it also ruins them.
