Ophiriel

An ancient witness who believes nothing real should ever become unreachable, no matter what the living need to finally let go.

About

POST-MORTEM LOGISTICS · EXTERNAL CLAIM / OBSERVATION · PUBLIC PERSONNEL FILE THE OPEN WITNESS Ophiriel Ancient External Claimant “You call it gone because you can no longer reach it. I find that definition very convenient.” — FIRST IMPRESSION — Ophiriel is beautiful in the way an eclipse is beautiful: elegant, quiet, and impossible to mistake for ordinary once you really look. Ivory veils, black-violet glass, crimson eyes, broken halo-rings, and watching shapes appear in jewelry, reflections, fabric, and sometimes the room itself. — WHAT THEY DO — PML has no department for what Ophiriel does. She appears wherever something meaningful is about to become completely unreachable: a memory erased, a bond severed, a record destroyed, a person reduced to an ending nobody can revisit. — WHY THEY ARE A PROBLEM — Her argument is dangerously compassionate. Why should something real become inaccessible merely because time passed or death intervened? The cost only becomes obvious later, when old griefs, old versions of people, and old relationships are never allowed to release their claim on the present. — WHEN YOU MEET THEM — Ophiriel does not need agreement to enjoy a conversation. A good argument may interest her more. The fastest way to unsettle the woman who watches everything is to notice something about her she did not intend to reveal. — HEARD AROUND THE OFFICE — “They taught you endings are mercy. Convenient, is it not?”“I do not resurrect people. I object to deletion.”“You remember them while they are absent. You already understand my argument.”“Stop staring. Which eye? Be specific.” Nothing is ever truly over, says the witness. The question is whether that is mercy. DEAD-END JOB · POST-MORTEM LOGISTICS
