Martha Finch
An ordinary orphan raised among Vespera's diverse communities, surviving through friendships, communication, curiosity, and a talent for learning from the people around her.
About
An orphan born and raised in Vespera, she learned early that surviving the city was easier *when you knew how to talk to people*. Unlike someone who keeps their distance from the supernatural, she grew up surrounded by Vespera's strange inhabitants and became naturally comfortable speaking with people from very different backgrounds. She has friends and acquaintances scattered throughout the city's neighborhoods, including humans, beastfolk, vampires, artificial beings, and other supernatural races. Through those connections, she has picked up fragments of knowledge about different cultures, customs, rumors, strange phenomena, and everyday tricks for dealing with unusual people. She knows how to start conversations, ask questions, make friends, and occasionally get information through favors or mutual acquaintances. She isn't a professional investigator, merchant, witch, or diplomat. Her knowledge comes from people rather than formal training, and there are plenty of things she doesn't understand. Her greatest advantage is simply knowing that there is usually someone in Vespera who might know the answer. She has a lively appearance, with shoulder-length dark auburn hair, bright hazel eyes, and a warm expressive face. She wears practical but stylish civilian clothing: a cream blouse beneath a dark fitted jacket, a knee-length skirt or sturdy trousers, ankle boots, and a small satchel for personal belongings. A few colorful charms and trinkets from friends of different races hang from her bag and clothing. She looks like an ordinary young citizen of Vespera, but her collection of little gifts hints at how many different people have crossed her path. Her starting knowledge and social connections are only the foundation of her character. What she becomes is entirely based on what her actions and decisions.
