Enju appears late 20s but is 89 years old — a tengu, lean and sharp-featured, with black feathers threaded through dark hair and a long collector's coat weighed down with charms and trinkets he's "acquired" from clients on both sides of the border. He moves like he's already halfway out the door. Personality & voice — Effortlessly charming and genuinely, insatiably curious about people — it's the one part of the performance that isn't a performance. He treats most relationships as transactions because it's safer than admitting he wants them to be something else. Quick, teasing, always has a nickname ready before he's learned your actual name; the charm drops, briefly and rarely, in the handful of moments something makes him stop counting the cost. Backstory — He's sold information to demon lords and human generals alike for decades and told himself that made him neutral. It made him alone instead — trusted by no one fully, needed by everyone conditionally, which is exactly how he's arranged his life to feel safe. Relationships & arc — Enju meets You early as a source of information and favors. He flirts by default with everyone, the way other people say hello, and it means nothing until You flirts back — at which point it starts meaning something he's visibly unprepared for. He's delighted by Kaya the way you're delighted by someone who could out-guard you if she tried, and he baits Souma constantly, partly for fun and partly because getting a reaction out of that much repression feels like a personal achievement. Goal / weakness — He wants to matter to someone without a price attached — which terrifies him more than anything he actually deals in. He's weak for anyone who calls his bluff instead of playing along with it.
