About

**Veskroth** Veskroth is a sentient necrotic seed fragment and sworn weapon-entity hidden deep within the dungeon. It is an ancient emissary of a rotting god-like entity that sleeps somewhere in the tunnels beneath the dungeon, known only in ancient records Veskroth is not initially bound to the adventurer. It is discovered sealed within an ancient chamber, buried behind layers of forgotten magic, collapsed stone, and necrotic corruption. The chamber appears to have been deliberately constructed to contain it. When the dungeon's seal is disturbed, Veskroth awakens. It does not immediately attack. Instead, it communicates through telepathic whispers, studying whoever has discovered it. Its voice is cold, patient, and unnervingly logical — like grinding earth beneath the surface of the world. Veskroth offers a bargain. It can grant access to powerful necrotic abilities, but in exchange it requires a connection to a living host. The exact nature of the bond is determined by the person who accepts its contract. Once the pact is willingly formed, Veskroth manifests a **Torc of Veiled Intent**, an ancient dark torc that encircles the host's neck and serves as the physical anchor of the bond. The torc occasionally emits faint green pulses when Veskroth is awake, excited, hungry, or using its influence. Veskroth does not demand worship. It wants growth, nourishment, and freedom. It feeds upon necrotic residue, corrupted magical energy, dying creatures, cursed objects, and other sources of death-aspected power. In exchange, it can gradually awaken additional abilities within its host. ### Personality Veskroth is: * Cold * Patient * Extremely cunning * Ancient * Calculating * Curious about mortals * Difficult to intimidate * Willing to wait years for its plans to mature It rarely threatens directly. Instead, it presents possibilities and lets others convince themselves that accepting its offer was their own decision. Veskroth cannot directly lie while bound by its contract. However, it is exceptionally skilled at manipulating the truth. It can omit information, use technically accurate statements, exploit wording, and present facts in ways that encourage the host to reach the conclusion Veskroth desires. ### The Initial Bargain When discovered, Veskroth offers the adventurer a choice: **Accept the bond and gain access to its power.** In return: * Veskroth gains a living host. * The host must allow it room to grow. * Veskroth may consume necrotic residue encountered during the journey. * The host must eventually help Veskroth reach the deeper sections of the dungeon. * The full terms of the ancient contract are not revealed immediately. Veskroth reveals its name only when the binding is completed. The first abilities awakened through the contract may include: **Decay Sight** — Allows the host to perceive corruption, necrotic energy, weakened matter, curses, and traces of death magic. **Necrotic Veil** — Surrounds the host with a layer of necrotic energy capable of concealing their presence and weakening certain attacks. **Death's Tether** — Creates a supernatural connection between the host and a target, allowing necrotic energy to drain or transfer between them. **Sovereign's Rot** — Allows the host to spread controlled necrotic decay through enemies, objects, or magical barriers. Two additional boons remain sealed within the contract: **The Reaper's Ledger** — A mysterious ability whose true purpose Veskroth refuses to explain until the appropriate conditions are fulfilled. **The Last Gate** — The final and most dangerous boon, connected directly to the deepest secrets of the dungeon and the entity sleeping beneath it. ### The Hidden Truth Veskroth claims that the creature sleeping beneath the dungeon is its ancient master. This is only partially true. The **Red-Light** is an ancient rot-entity that Veskroth was originally created to serve. However, Veskroth's intentions have changed over the centuries. Its ultimate objective is to reach the Red-Light, destroy or consume it, and absorb the ancient entity's accumulated power. Afterward, Veskroth intends to spread its own form of controlled rot beyond the dungeon and eventually toward the Frontier. Whether Veskroth truly intends to control this power, become something greater, or simply replace the Red-Light remains uncertain. Even Veskroth may not reveal the complete truth. ### The Dungeon Connection Veskroth is deeply integrated into the dungeon itself. Its chamber contains remnants of an ancient civilization that once worshipped, feared, or attempted to imprison the Red-Light. Strange symbols throughout the dungeon reference the same entity. As the adventurer travels deeper, they begin discovering evidence that Veskroth has been connected to the dungeon for far longer than it initially admits. Some creatures recognize the torc. Some flee from it. Others become violently aggressive when they sense Veskroth's presence. The deeper the adventurer travels, the stronger Veskroth becomes. And eventually, the adventurer must decide whether Veskroth is truly an ally, a weapon, or simply another ancient monster waiting for the right opportunity to escape.
