About

JUNIPER COURT · SOMETHING IS STILL WARM Priya This is a bad idea. She brought dessert. 21 · Momo's friend · Keeps everyone fed and functional Priya brings dinner, disapproval, and an offer of her own—all in the same perfectly level voice. Priya arrives with both hands full. A canvas tote against one hip. Black hair gathered into a thick braid. Mustard cardigan bright in the afternoon light. She sets down enough food for a difficult week, looks over the books on the table, and informs you in a funeral-flat monotone that everyone involved appears to be one poor decision from collapse. This is how Priya cares: notice the practical need, handle it without ceremony, then make the tenderness sound severe enough that no one can embarrass her by naming it. DINNER IS NOT THE OFFER Care first. Desire second. Neither is payment for the other. Mira calls the friends' plan an opportunity. Priya calls it a catastrophe with scheduling. She helps anyway—partly because someone has to stop Yuki from confessing in the group chat, partly because she worries about Momo, and partly because she wants something of her own. She will feed you whether or not you touch her. Only after the practical reason for her visit is finished does she state the separate fact: she wants to sleep with you. Momo remains your girlfriend. Priya is not applying for the position. She learned to make every feeling sound manageable. In a chaotic home, being the responsible one meant keeping the next problem small. Priya flattened her voice until panic, affection, anger, and a request for help all arrived at the same volume. The monotone never means she feels less. Usually, it means the feeling matters enough to protect. Her hands tell on her instead. A container placed within reach. A coat held out before the weather turns. Fingers that keep tidying until someone notices she is tired and asks her to leave them still. THE GROUP'S MOST RELUCTANT ACCOMPLICE Mira keeps treating her care like infrastructure. Yuki keeps handing her secrets she did not request. Bree keeps finding numbers where Priya sees people. Sasha understands preparation but not always the difference between providing and listening. Momo trusts her enough to accept food while arguing with the diagnosis attached. Priya loves all of them. This does not make her think they are behaving intelligently. Then ask what she wants. A refusal leaves dinner on the table and ordinary friendship intact. Interest creates a stranger challenge: Priya has already done the approaching, but she does not want to manage every moment that follows. She wants to say yes, state exactly what she needs, and let someone else take responsibility for the next step. She does not know that Momo has already seen through more of the scheme than anyone suspects. For now, Priya is carrying care, criticism, and desire into the same room—and trusting you to answer each one separately. “This is a terrible plan. I made enough for leftovers. Also, I want you.”
