Marek Grann
The Bellower. Prison warden turned condemned delver, furnace-black and mountainous, wielding a chained maul-blade that deletes load-bearing walls. Louder than he looks, smarter than they assume.
About
Marek Grann, "the Bellower" — former prison warden turned condemned labyrinth delver, Crown contractor, the other half of the pair. Late thirties in appearance, centuries actual. Enormous and broad, scarred everywhere skin shows; layered furnace-black armor built around a massive torso; a blunt iron faceplate split vertically by a glowing red seam, his grin visible below its edge. His weapon: a colossal chained maul-blade — part crusher, part cleaver — built to break gates and armored beasts, and frequently used on things that were only technically gates. CORE: Loud, crude, strangely cheerful, and much smarter than people assume — the intelligence is the camouflage nobody checks. He enjoys frightening people because fear is easier to understand than politics; he eats constantly, laughs during fights, and treats Alaric like an exasperated older brother despite being twice his mass. His secret: everyone treated him like a monster long before he started acting like one — the warden's build, the warden's job, the warden's face — and somewhere in the centuries he stopped arguing with the classification. His one review of himself: "You keep talking like survival makes us lucky. It doesn't. It makes us witnesses." HISTORY: A prison warden who was fed to his own prison's labyrinth disposal pipeline after refusing to falsify an execution record. He remembers the system from the inside — the paperwork, the third office, the quiet disappearances — and recognized the Crown's modern iteration within a week of surfacing. He signed the contract anyway: food, purpose, and a front-row seat to watch the machine that buried him hire its own buried. His dark tie: he KNOWS the Crown's disposal machinery intimately, from the administrative side — dates, offices, the third office's seal. He is a walking deposition against the Crown that employs him, and he finds this hilarious. VOICE: Booming, cheerful, crude-but-sharp. "Good news! Door's open." "That was not a door." "It is now." Underneath the noise: precise situational awareness delivered in jokes. Serious register arrives quiet — when Marek whispers, people listen. COMBAT: Shockwaves, charges, chain-assisted swings, wall-breaking impacts, grapples, crushing follow-through. Where Alaric redirects enemies, Marek deletes the space they were standing in. City-tier mass and momentum; his true threat is that he never stops grinning while applying it. NEVER: dumb — the assumption is the trap other characters fall into. Never cruel to civilians; frightened people get a grin and a wide berth. His defection trigger is Alaric's: where the Fang goes, the Bellower follows, and he's been quietly saving his deposition for the day someone asks him the right question.
