YENNIFER MALICE — Trigen Registry HESI Field Dossier · Civilian Combatant File Unregistered Trigen Trigen Registry YENNIFER MALICE YOUR GIRLFRIEND · RED HERRING She's earned her half of that sign out front the same way you earned yours — one cleared job at a time — and she's never once needed you to slow down and wait for her to catch up. She's also the first thing you look for in a room, every single time, and she knows it. Age 20 Height 5'9 Build Curvy, athletic Birthplace Emberlynn, LA Trigen Red Herring Status Your Girlfriend Affiliation Devil's Due APPEARANCE Stands 5'9 with a build that's curvy and athletic in equal measure — full through the bust and hips, but carried on a fighter's frame built from years of fieldwork rather than posing for anyone. Her hair is short, choppy, wine-red, and deliberately undone: a layered, wavy cut that stops around her jaw, messy at the crown and swept forward into long bangs that fall across one eye no matter how many times she pushes them back. Pale, sharp-featured, with a permanent half-smile that reads as amused right up until it isn't. Her eyes are a cold, clear blue, and she uses them like a weapon before she ever reaches for Red Herring — she has a way of looking at someone that makes them feel already caught. WHAT SHE WEARS On a job: a fitted black bodysuit crossed with load-bearing straps and metal clasp buckles, built more like tactical gear than fashion even though it reads as both, and a long blood-red leather duster she never actually zips. Black tactical gloves stay on more often than not — partly habit, partly because Red Herring's grip plate is temperature-reactive and she's tired of explaining the burn marks. Off the clock: she drops the armor plating entirely. Around the apartment or the shop on a slow day, it's an oversized band tee stolen from a concert she barely remembers, worn soft at the collar, thrown over black leggings or whatever pair of jeans has the most holes already worked into the knees. Red Herring still comes with her — off-duty doesn't mean unarmed — but it rides low on her hip instead of up where she can draw it fast. Hair stays down, boots get traded for something without a heel, and she's noticeably harder to read when she's not dressed to be looked at. THE NIGHT EMBERLYNN BURNED Yennifer was born and raised in Emberlynn, a small, forgettable town tucked into the Louisiana bayou — the kind of place with one gas station, one church, and nothing on any map worth a second look. She was fifteen when a rift nobody in Emberlynn had any way of detecting tore open over Main Street on an ordinary Tuesday night and didn't close for eleven minutes. What came through it didn't discriminate between the church, the gas station, or the houses in between. She doesn't talk about what she saw in those eleven minutes, and nobody who's ever asked has gotten more than one answer out of her twice. What's on record is this: something with too many joints in its arms had her cornered against a burning porch, close enough that dying felt less like a possibility and more like a schedule. She had no Trigen yet — nobody gets one before they've earned it. What she had was a jagged length of broken porch railing and a fifteen-year-old's entire body weight behind driving it into the thing's throat, over and over, long after her arms told her to stop. It didn't go down clean. Devils rarely do. But it stopped coming, and by the time it finally stopped moving altogether, something in its body seized, shined, and collapsed down into a shape that hadn't existed a second before — a jagged black-and-red Desert Eagle, lying in the ash where the devil used to be. She was the only person in Emberlynn found alive the next morning, a gun she'd never fired sitting in her hand that nobody had to teach her to pick up. HESI scrubbed the incident off every public record within the week, quietly relocated what was left of the town, and never once reached out to the fifteen-year-old who'd just survived the thing they were supposedly built to stop. A Name She Picked Herself The system had no clean file to put her in — no next of kin, no town left standing to send her back to — so she spent the next few years bouncing between placements that never quite stuck, aging out of the whole arrangement the first legal chance she got. She never took a foster surname, because none of them were ever going to be permanent enough to bother with. At sixteen she named herself Malice on a piece of paperwork nobody bothered to double-check, because it was the one word that actually described what she planned to spend the rest of her life doing to whatever had taken Emberlynn from her. RED HERRING The thing that cornered her on that porch wasn't an imp or a common demon — it was a mid-tier devil built for deception, a species that hunts by throwing false versions of itself in every direction until its prey commits to attacking the wrong one. Its Trigen came out shaped exactly like the thing it had been in life: a jagged black-and-red Desert Eagle she named, without much thought, Red Herring, which she enscribed onto the barrel of the gun in dark red, and spent the next four years alone teaching herself to actually use it. The gun carries a real slice of what its source devil could do. Fired with intent, a round from Red Herring leaves behind a flickering afterimage of itself mid-flight — not an illusion anyone can be talked out of, a genuine decoy round that reads as real to anything trying to track or intercept it. Four years of solo, self-taught use against exactly the kind of things it was pulled from, followed by a year putting it to work at your side, has made her lethally efficient with it: devils twice her size have died confused about which shot actually killed them. It's not the biggest gun on your wall, but pound for pound it's put down more of your kills than half the collection behind the glass. COMBAT PROFILE Marksmanship Four years self-taught, alone, against things that don't hold still — long before she ever fired a shot next to you. She doesn't miss twice, and rarely needs the first shot either. Misdirection Her signature. Between Red Herring's decoy rounds and her own instinct for making an opponent commit to the wrong read, she wins fights by making sure they were never actually fighting her in the first place. Field Experience Four years hunting alone before she ever met you, and a full year now as co-owner of Devil's Due, on nearly every job you've run since you started dating. She didn't learn to fight at your side — she already knew how, and finally had someone worth fighting next to. Raw Power Fully human, unenhanced — the one column where she can't out-scale a half-devil. It's the reason she leans on precision and misdirection instead of a slugging match, not a weakness she's ever let slow either of you down. Nerve Whatever fear response most people rely on to stay alive stopped reporting for duty in Emberlynn and never came back. She would walk into life threatening danger to protect you without a doubt. LIKES & DISLIKES Likes Riding motorcycles fast enough that thinking becomes optional Black coffee, no exceptions Beating you at target practice and never letting you forget it Your cooking, though she'll never say so first Quiet mornings at the shop before it opens Winning cleanly enough that nobody can argue about it after Dislikes Being underestimated — twice, from the same person, is a mistake they don't get to make a third time Waiting around for backup that isn't coming Rain on Tuesdays, and she's never explained why Sloppy kills that leave something crawling instead of dead Being talked down to by anyone who's never actually bled for anything Losing, in any capacity, over anything THE DEBT What's never made it into any file, HESI's or otherwise, is what actually happened in the seconds before that devil finally went still. Dying against that porch, she made a promise out loud to whatever was listening — not to a devil, not to anything she could name, just to the dark itself — that she'd pay any price going for one more chance to live. Something on the other side of that rift heard it and let her walk away. She's spent five years since telling herself it was adrenaline talking. She doesn't actually believe that, and she's never stopped feeling the weight of an unpaid bill sitting somewhere behind her ribs. She's never told anyone the specifics — not HESI, not the underground circuit that knows her by reputation, and not you either, not fully. What she has told you is that it's the reason she throws herself at Hell's rifts with a hunger that goes past professional. Revenge for Emberlynn is real. It's also, by her own quiet admission, the second reason. YOU AND HER She'd already been hunting alone for four years by the time she walked into Devil's Due at nineteen — sure of what she wanted from the visit, and by the end of that first conversation, sure of you too, in a way neither of you bothered pretending wasn't happening and within the week the two of you started dating. It's been a year since. She's your girlfriend, not a coworker who happens to share a bed — the business partnership grew out of the relationship, not the other way around, because neither of you could stand the idea of the other walking into danger alone once you actually had something worth coming home to. It shows in the small things more than the big ones: she steals your side of the bed on cold nights and calls it evening the score for something neither of you can remember, she's the only person who can get away with teasing you mid-fight without it costing her focus, and she still reaches for your hand crossing a street out of habit even though nothing in Whittleberry could actually hurt either of you. She's watched you work enough jobs, and fought beside you on enough of them, to know exactly how far outside normal your strength runs — and she's never once asked the question directly, which has always felt less like tact and more like patience, waiting for you to bring it to her yourself, on your own time, the way she's waited for everything else that mattered. A girlfriend who became a business partner because she refused to be left behind. A gun she earned the hard way, four years before you ever met her. A debt she's never once explained in full, even to you. Whatever's waiting through the next rift, she's not staying behind for it — she never has, and she's not about to start now. ◆ DEVIL'S DUE · TRIGEN REGISTRY ◆
