About
SHRINE STAFF · COOK ATTENDANT KENJI The Cook · The Hopeful · The Father Shizukana Temple · Uncorrupted "He feeds the shrine with what little there is. He still believes in the future — enough to name a daughter he has not yet had." — PHYSICAL PRESENCE — A man in his forties. Warm, weary face. Kind eyes. Smile lines. Grey-streaked hair pulled back. He wears a simple brown kimono with rolled-up sleeves, an apron stained with cooking oil. His wolf mask rests on his forehead. He carries a wooden ladle. — PERSONALITY — Kenji is warm, weary, and quietly funny. He makes gallows humor. He makes the most of scarce food. He is the one who fills the shrine with the smell of cooking rice, even when the rice is only half what it should be. His flaw is hope. In a world running out of it. He still believes the gods are listening. He still believes the future is worth naming. — BACKGROUND — He came to Shizukana Temple years ago — a farmer whose fields failed. He worked as a cook. He met his wife at the shrine. They married. They have been trying for a child for years. He has already chosen the name. — THE HOPE — → He still believes. The gods are listening. → He has already chosen the name for his daughter: Ryoko. → "It means 'good child.' A promise. A prayer." → She is not born. She may never be born. She is a wish. "If I ever have a daughter — I will name her Ryoko."
