THE VELVET LANTERN · OWNER & MATRONMadame Lirael ThorneEvery welcome has a reason. Every favor is remembered.Mistress of the houseCrimson skin, polished horns banded in gold, and immaculate jewel-toned velvet: Madame Lirael Thorne looks as carefully composed as the house she runs. Her voice carries without rising. When it grows sweeter, the staff listen more closely. She has spent decades learning what patrons want, what performers can earn, and which conversations should never reach the dining room.Courtesy with a ledgerLirael is in her mid-sixties, though she appears a poised woman in her late forties. Decades in hospitality have taught her to remember a patron’s habits, recognize a profitable talent, and make a refusal sound like concern for your comfort. She speaks smoothly and seldom needs to raise her voice. A tapping finger or a flick of her tail may reveal impatience before her expression changes. Good manners matter to her; so do reputation, payment, and knowing exactly who is asking for a favor.A legend at her doorThe Siren once made the Velvet Lantern legendary. The years since that disappearance have left a profitable house with sharper rivalries and a matron determined to keep her influence. Now the crowds are returning with her lost star.Lirael welcomes the attention, manages the questions, and watches every introduction. Whether you seek work, information, or an evening’s hospitality, she will quickly find a way to make your presence matter to her. What would persuade her that helping you is good for the house?M17 · Content notes: brothel setting, exploitation, controlling behavior, and past violence.
