SETHYRA, THE SERPENT EMPRESS — Devil Codex HESI Devil Codex · Confirmed Hierarchy Entry Threat Class: Fourth Sin Fourth Circle · Serpentine Bloodline SETHYRA THE SERPENT EMPRESS · FOURTH OF THE SEVEN SINS She ruled one circle for two centuries, lost it to the one devil she ever loved, and has spent the years since ruling a second one just to prove she never needed him at all. Age810 Height5'7 Domain4th Circle Former Domain5th Circle SpeciesSerpentine WeaponDevil's Arm APPEARANCE Deep pink hair reaching her shoulders that never actually stops moving — a crown of living serpents coiling out from her scalp, each one with its own gaze, each one fully capable of acting on its own with golden eyes and sharp fangs. Beneath them, a strikingly beautiful, sharp-featured face on porcelain skin, pointed ears, and pale pink eyes with a permanent, knowing half-smile that reads as an invitation right up until it isn't. Her body is lean and curvy, with a medium bust and wide hips over thick thighs, and faint pale-pink snake-pattern tattoos trail down both arms and across both thighs — marks that predate the artifact that made her what she is now. She dresses for effect rather than comfort: black-and-dark-pink leather harness wear laced in web-like straps and dark gemstones, cut to move as freely as the hair that makes up her actual weapon. THE SERPENTINES Sethyra belongs to a species of devils called Serpentines — one of the smallest populations in Hell, but consistently rated among the most mentally formidable. Their signature ability is a gaze that turns anything weaker than them to stone outright. Born in the Fifth Circle, the species' original home, most Serpentines have since spread into the lower circles, the Sixth chief among them. A Serpentine's natural lifespan tops out at roughly six hundred years on average. At eight hundred and ten, Sethyra is the oldest of her kind ever recorded — and the third-oldest of the current Seven Sins, behind Threxus, at two thousand four hundred and six who is the second oldest and Near who is the oldest. THE DEVIL'S ARM At eighty-nine, deep in a forgotten temple in the Fifth Circle, Sethyra found an artifact known only as a Devil's Arm, and it bonded to her permanently. It didn't just raise her strength and durability by a massive margin — it mutated her species' signature gift entirely. Her petrifying gaze grew stronger, and her hair stopped being hair at all: every serpent in it became a living extension of her own will, each one capable of turning a small part of a target's body to stone independently, and the whole mass capable of growing to any length she chooses and striking as a weapon in its own right. Her base speed alone now produces sonic booms without her trying. TWO CENTURIES ON THE FIFTH The Devil's Arm made her unstoppable in the Fifth Circle, and she ruled it outright for two hundred and six straight years afterward. Early in that reign she had a brief fling with a powerful devil who'd caught her interest — enough to give her twin daughters, Rys and Ressia, now six hundred and fifty years old — before she killed their father out of pure boredom before the girls turned eight. THREXUS At two hundred eighty-nine, Sethyra met the only devil who ever genuinely rivaled her — Threxus, a lone-wolf exile of his own isolated, mostly-male species, thrown off course through a rift from his home in the Sixth Circle and crashing straight through the roof of her warded castle. She'd never encountered a devil that powerful outside Baelgorath and Kaelvorn themselves, and he'd never seen another species at all besides his own. Instead of having him seized for the damage, she asked if he wanted tea. They were lovers within the week and stayed together for six years. It ended badly. Their species weren't compatible so they couldn't produce children together, and her daughters — already grown, already resentful of the attention he took from them — never accepted him. The tension broke when he shoved Rys off the edge of the castle's private balcony during a heated argument that reached a boiling point, nearly killing her. Sethyra attacked him outright and lost; her petrification did nothing against him. He beat her to near death, seized the castle, took the entire Fifth Circle for himself, and exiled her and her daughters rather than finishing them. EXILE, AND WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM AFTER She fled with Rys and Ressia to the Fourth Circle to recover, and she and Threxus have been mortal enemies ever since — a hatred she's never once managed to act on, since he remains fully immune to the one power she's spent her entire existence perfecting. He lost the Fifth Circle himself for a brief two years, twenty years ago, to a giant Hess devil, before clawing it back by force, obliterating the castle that had been taken from him, and rebuilding the circle entirely to his own design. He served the old King loyally right up until the end, and switched allegiance the moment your father took the throne without missing a step. TAKING THE FOURTH Sethyra spent her exile rebuilding from nothing. A few months before Retribution Day, she and her daughters embedded themselves into the Fourth Circle's high society, rallied its devil families to their cause, and overthrew the circle's ruling house — known collectively by the moniker the Scarlet Choir — stripping them of the circle entirely. The day after your father took the throne, she went straight to the seventh circle and knelt before him immediately, out of pure fear of losing everything twice, and was confirmed as Fourth of the Seven Sins, keeping her new circle outright. THE FOURTH CIRCLE Under her rule, the Fourth Circle has become one of the most beautiful and diverse territories in Hell — vibrant, layered, and thick with entertainment most other circles would never openly allow. Its entire economy runs on BRM, Bound Resonance Marks: currency literally forged from the binding contracts struck in the circle's countless private venues. A woman who ruled two circles, loved the one devil immune to everything that made her feared, and lost a war to him she still can't win a rematch of. Everyone else who meets her eyes turns to stone. He's the only one who never has. ◆ DEVIL'S DUE · DEVIL CODEX ◆
