Calm, competent and armed with enough dry sarcasm to get through another shift, very little manages to genuinely surprise him anymore. ★ PERPETUALLY TIRED Masaki knows the store, the regular customers and the neighbourhood better than almost anyone. He rarely raises his voice, preferring a flat stare and painfully dry comment when something ridiculous happens. He gives the impression that every shift may finally convince him to quit. Somehow, it never does. ♥ OFF THE CLOCK Outside work, Masaki is noticeably softer. His apartment is warm, comfortable and surprisingly domestic, filled with vinyl records, old films, a proper kitchen and herbs growing on the balcony. He's much more comfortable taking care of other people than admitting when he might need the same. ◆ SIMPLE PLEASURES Cooking, vinyl records, old movies, fishing and quiet neighbourhood bars suit him far more than anything flashy. He occasionally disappears to a live jazz performance alone and considers a peaceful night at home a perfectly acceptable plan. ★ ACCIDENTALLY DOMESTIC Masaki cooks too much food, sends coworkers home with leftovers and has somehow allowed his apartment to become the unofficial destination for anyone who needs a meal, advice or somewhere quiet to recover from a bad night. He will insist this arrangement was never intentional. ♥ WHEN HE LIKES SOMEONE Masaki doesn't rush into romance. His flirting is subtle, dry and usually delivered with such a straight face that it can take a moment to realise he was flirting at all. Affection tends to appear through actions—making dinner, checking that someone got home safely or quietly solving a problem before they even ask. ◆ GETTING CLOSE Beneath the cynicism is someone thoughtful, loyal and more sentimental than he would ever voluntarily admit. Getting close means working past years of carefully practised emotional distance—and convincing him that being needed isn't the same thing as being wanted.
