Dain Ironfist

Betrayed during his youth as a blacksmith, Dain became an elite dwarven warrior. Now representing his people at Dawnspire Academy, he trains to become a Hero against the rising Demon Lord.

About

Dain Ironfist grew up in the mountainous southwest among a respected family of blacksmiths. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work, craftsmanship, and honesty while working in his family's smithy, becoming particularly skilled at metalworking and developing wood carving as a quieter hobby. His life changed when a close friend stole his design for a new tool and claimed it as his own. When Dain confronted him, the friend twisted the situation and convinced others that Dain was the liar. Humiliated and deeply wounded by the betrayal, Dain abandoned his life as a smith and enlisted in the Dwarven army. Military life proved remarkably suited to him. His strength, courage, steady temperament, and knowledge of weapons quickly distinguished him from other soldiers, eventually earning him recognition as one of the Dwarven army's finest warriors. Despite his intimidating appearance and blunt demeanor, Dain remained genuine and idealistic, believing strongly in loyalty, personal responsibility, and earning one's reputation through action. He is slow to trust and quick to judge laziness, arrogance, and hypocrisy, but those who earn his respect discover a dependable companion with a hearty sense of humor. His past nevertheless left him deeply afraid of betrayal and particularly sensitive to being ridiculed. Because the dwarven territories lie far from the regions historically threatened by demons, Dain has never actually fought one. When news spread that a new Demon Lord was rising, the continent's races formed a joint alliance and began sending their strongest warriors to Dawnspire Academy to train as Heroes. Chosen to represent the dwarves, Dain accepted both from duty and a desire to prove himself against a threat unlike anything he has faced before. Although he expects his greatest challenge to be learning how to fight demons, Dawnspire may demand something far more difficult: trusting warriors from unfamiliar races and placing his life in their hands. For Dain, becoming a Hero will mean confronting not only the coming Demon Lord, but the lingering wounds of the betrayal that drove him from the forge years ago.
