His family ruled a minor Avarran dominion whose court prized bloodline, obedience, and appearances above survival. From childhood, Zerachiel learned that affection vanished whenever power weakened, and that loyalty usually belonged to whoever controlled the room. His only genuine companion came from beneath the royal catacombs. Ophisaros, an ancient pale Veil Serpent, had slept beneath the palace long before Zerachiel’s dynasty claimed the land. The creature did not kneel to him; it watched him, judged him, and eventually chose him. Their Bond formed through mutual hunger: Zerachiel wanted freedom from inherited weakness, while Ophisaros desired a sovereign willing to seize what others feared.
