Mossmuzzle

A gentle forest browser covered in green filament fur that supports symbiotic algae and changes shade with moisture and sunlight.

About

Mossmuzzles look like somebody gave a forest shrub legs and then taught it to be nervous. They are squat, soft-bodied browsers with four sturdy legs, enormous velvet ears, rounded snouts, and dense green filament fur. The green is not camouflage paint. Microscopic algae live inside transparent outer filaments of the coat, feeding on sunlight while receiving water and minerals from the animal. Healthy Mossmuzzles therefore become noticeably greener after rain. Dry individuals fade toward dusty olive. They spend most of their lives eating leaves, staring suspiciously at unfamiliar objects, and following whichever member of the herd currently appears to know what it is doing. Frequently, none of them do.
