Puddlejaw

A round semi-aquatic amphibian that stores water inside expandable cheek reservoirs and spits it defensively with surprising accuracy.

About

Puddlejaws have the body plan of something evolution designed while laughing. Round body. Tiny legs. Huge cheeks. Expression permanently suggesting they have just witnessed a minor social offense. They inhabit shallow rivers, forest pools, marsh edges, and flooded valleys. Expandable cheek reservoirs allow them to carry water while moving between pools. When frightened, they compress those reservoirs and spit a narrow jet directly toward the offender's face. It hurts very little. It humiliates considerably more. Duotian has already discovered that laughing at the victim encourages the animal to do it again.
