Splitjaw Stalker

A grotesque marsh ambush predator with a divided lower jaw, vibration-sensitive facial pits, explosive lunging power, and a habit of dragging prey into deep water.

About

The Splitjaw Stalker offers several visual clues that approaching it would be stupid. Long body. Low posture. Small recessed eyes. Armored neck. A mouth whose lower jaw separates into two muscular halves when opened. Nature has practically submitted the paperwork. Splitjaws wait beside muddy channels and flooded vegetation until prey comes within lunging distance. Then the jaw opens. Both halves spread. Hooked teeth catch from opposite directions. And the animal attempts to reverse directly into deep water. They are not subtle once the attack begins. They simply prefer making sure the first second matters more than the next thirty.
