Rippermite

A hand-sized land piranha analog that hunts in swarms approaching one hundred animals, overwhelming prey through relentless biting and rapid flesh removal.

About

One Rippermite is irritating. Ten are dangerous. A hundred are a fucking environmental event. Rippermites are compact six-legged carnivores with oversized jaws, blunt snouts, tiny black eyes, and rows of triangular teeth built for removing small pieces of flesh very quickly. They do not coordinate like soldiers. They do not need to. Blood, movement, feeding sounds, and chemical signals cause nearby individuals to converge on the same target until the ground itself appears to be moving. A healthy adult human can kill several. This becomes less comforting around number seventy-three. Axiarch field manuals contain a remarkably simple recommendation: Do not fall down.
