Glassneedle

A sleek defensive grazer covered in brittle translucent quills that fracture inside attackers and cause painful inflammatory wounds.

About

Glassneedles do not chase anything. They have outsourced that responsibility to regret. These sleek grassland grazers possess hundreds of translucent quills running along the back, shoulders, and flanks. The quills look delicate. They are. That is the problem. When something bites or grabs a Glassneedle, the tips snap off beneath the skin. Tiny backward-facing microbarbs prevent easy removal. The animal then leaves. The attacker spends the following hours reconsidering several personal decisions. Glassneedles are peaceful. Predators occasionally interpret this incorrectly. Usually once.
