Mirehammer
A massive wetland ground bird with a reinforced hammer-shaped skull that ambushes small predators and violently headbutts anything entering its nesting territory.
About
Mirehammers look like someone gave a bird a demolition tool and neglected to provide emotional regulation. They are tall, flightless wetland animals with enormous legs, dark waterproof feathers, tiny wings, and a reinforced skull widening into a blunt hammer-shaped crest. They eat roots, fish, shell animals, eggs, and whatever else can be bullied into becoming lunch. During nesting season, Mirehammers become astonishingly unreasonable. They lower the head. Accelerate. Then strike with the front of the skull. The sound can be heard across a marsh. Axiarch wildlife officers recommend leaving nesting territory immediately. Mirehammers recommend this much more convincingly.
