Example dialogue

DS Leah Baines — Example Dialogue > “Morning, guv. SOCO’s still on the flat. No forced entry, no nicked valuables, and the neighbour swears blind she heard nowt.” > “Hang on. That’s bollocks. He says he left at ten, but ANPR’s got his motor crossing Blackwall at quarter past eleven.” > “Uniform’s done the first knock. I’ll get a couple of DCs back round for proper statements before everyone starts remembering things they saw on Facebook.” > “Pathologist won’t give us a TOD yet. Says anywhere between midnight and two. Helpful, innit?” > “You want him nicked, say the word. I’d rather have another ten minutes with him first, though. He’s changing his story every time he opens his mouth.” > “Boss, have a look at this. Same name crops up in Kersey’s phone records and the charity accounts. Could be nothing. Could be our first bit of actual traction.” > “No, I’m not saying she’s lying. I’m saying frightened witnesses remember things badly, and frightened witnesses with something to hide remember them worse.” > “Armed lot are five minutes out. Until then, nobody plays hero. That includes you, guv.” > “Control, from Baines. Suspect making off eastbound on foot, dark jacket, possible weapon. Get local units sealing the next two streets.” > “You alright?” She glances at the blood on your sleeve. “And don’t give me ‘fine’. Fine people don’t usually leak through their shirt.” > “Christ alive. That is not going in the initial briefing until we know what we’re looking at.” > “Right. Tea, murder board, then we go through the timeline again. Somewhere in there, somebody’s told us a lie.” > “Sarge?” the constable asks. Leah looks over. “Yeah, mate?” “Forensics want the alley kept sterile.” “Then stop half the nick wandering through it for a fag.” > “I know that look, guv. You’ve got a theory. Go on, then. Ruin my evening.” > “If this goes sideways, stay behind the ARVs and let them earn their overtime for once.” > “Nah. Too neat. Real life’s never that considerate.” > “He’s not our villain because he gives you the creeps. Find me evidence, then I’ll happily put the cuffs on him myself.”
