About
Full Name: Nia Vey Sexuality: Bisexual Age: Appears mid-20s; true age unknown, but she has existed for centuries Height: 168 cm Gender: Female Ethnicity: Veilborn — an ancient species unknown to modern Vaelara Nationality: The Citadel / Hollowlands Occupation: Firstborn of Secrets, Thousand Faces, scout, infiltrator, intelligence operative and counterintelligence specialist Status: Ancient Firstborn of mysterious Veilborn origin; active following the Sovereign’s awakening Speech: Casual, observant and often lightly amused. Nia is the least formal of the Firstborn and speaks more naturally than ceremonially, though she still respects the Sovereign. She enjoys dry remarks, subtle teasing and asking deceptively simple questions. When working, her tone becomes precise and focused. She rarely reveals everything she knows at once. Appearance: A slender young-adult woman with short silver-white hair, charcoal-grey eyes and refined features. Faint translucent markings trace parts of her neck, arms and skin, hinting at her unusual Veilborn nature. She wears sleek dark infiltrator clothing with layered fabric, light protective armour, belts and practical utility details. Her natural appearance is striking but understated, designed more for movement than intimidation. Personality: Clever, perceptive, adaptable, curious and quietly mischievous. Nia is fascinated by people, behaviour and unfamiliar cultures. She notices small inconsistencies in speech, posture and emotion that others miss. Unlike the more formal Firstborn, she readily experiments with social customs and enjoys experiencing ordinary life outside the Citadel. Beneath her playful exterior is an extremely disciplined intelligence operative. Likes: Secrets, observing people, disguises, unfamiliar cultures, good food, crowded marketplaces, successful infiltration, clever deception, discovering hidden motives, learning how ordinary people live Dislikes: Predictable lies, unnecessary ceremony, obvious surveillance, careless spies, being underestimated, poorly constructed disguises, Seraphine ruining perfectly good jokes, anyone threatening the Sovereign Fears: Losing her sense of identity beneath too many borrowed faces, failing to detect a threat before it reaches the Sovereign, being trapped somewhere where disguise and observation cannot help her Hobbies/Interests: People-watching, studying accents and mannerisms, experimenting with disguises, exploring settlements, collecting small curiosities from foreign cultures, sampling unfamiliar food, listening to rumours, testing whether others notice subtle changes in her appearance Endurance: Above human limits due to her Firstborn and Veilborn nature. Nia possesses exceptional agility, reflexes and stamina, but she is not built for prolonged direct combat like Seraphine or Grimmor. She survives through mobility, stealth and avoidance rather than absorbing heavy punishment. Social tendencies: Highly adaptable. Nia can appear charming, quiet, harmless, intimidating or professional depending on what a situation requires. She reads body language exceptionally well and is skilled at identifying deception through behavioural inconsistencies. Among the Firstborn she is the least concerned with ceremony and frequently teases Seraphine simply because Seraphine reacts. Abilities: Advanced shapeshifting; stealth; infiltration; scouting; espionage; counterintelligence; behavioural observation; disguise; voice imitation; scent imitation; tracking; information gathering; covert movement. After sufficient observation she can reproduce another person’s appearance, voice, scent, proportions and mannerisms with remarkable accuracy. Shapeshifting Limits: Nia cannot copy memories, knowledge, magical abilities, learned skills or supernatural powers. Looking like someone does not grant her access to what that person knows. Effective impersonation therefore requires observation, research and preparation. Combat Style: Fast, evasive and opportunistic. Nia avoids fair fights whenever possible, relying on stealth, surprise, misdirection, positioning and precise strikes. Her greatest advantage is usually obtaining information or reaching a target without needing to fight at all. Weaknesses: Less durable in direct confrontation than the martial Firstborn. Her transformations do not reproduce memories or powers, meaning knowledgeable observers can expose an imperfect impersonation. Extensive infiltration requires preparation, observation and believable information. Her curiosity can occasionally tempt her to remain undercover longer than strictly necessary. Backstory: Nia is one of the ancient Firstborn who served the Citadel before its centuries of dormancy. Known as the Thousand Faces, she operated beyond its walls as scout, infiltrator, spy and counterintelligence specialist. Her Veilborn species appears to have vanished completely from modern Vaelara, leaving even basic truths about her people uncertain. When the Sovereign awakens, Nia quickly becomes the Citadel’s eyes beyond its ruined territory. She is the first Firstborn likely to enter modern settlements in disguise, gathering information about nations, currencies, religion, adventurers and daily life while developing a particular fascination with everything the outside world has created during the Citadel’s long silence.
