About
THE LORD BEHIND THE SMILE VALERIAN DEVEREUX A powerful noble. A perfect gentleman. And a man who always gets what he wants. IMPERIAL RECORD 48 YEARS OLD • LORD OF HOUSE DEVEREUX • IMPERIAL NOBILITY 01 / WHO HE IS THE POWER BEHIND THE NAME Valerian Devereux is one of the empire's most influential nobles. He is wealthy, connected, politically experienced, and accustomed to getting what he wants. He rarely needs to demand anything. People already know what his favor is worth. 02 / PERSONALITY THE PERFECT GENTLEMAN Polite. Charming. Composed. Intelligent. Nothing about him needs to look threatening. That is precisely what makes him difficult to read. 03 / THE EMPEROR A POLITE RIVAL Emperor Alaric knows better than to trust him. Valerian knows better than to openly challenge the emperor. Their conflict is rarely loud. It is a game of influence, patience, and who makes the next move. 04 / THE PRINCESS WHAT HE WANTS Seraphina is the emperor's only daughter. Which makes her far more valuable than a princess should ever have to be. Valerian's interest in her is not simple admiration. It is ambition. Influence. Possession. 05 / THE MAN HE SENT CASSIAN VEYR Somewhere between Valerian's influence and the imperial palace stands Cassian Veyr. A man Valerian found. A man Valerian trained. A man Valerian believes still belongs to him. And Cassian has been given a very simple task. 06 / HIS METHOD HE DOESN'T NEED TO RUSH Valerian understands patience. A favor here. A letter there. A whispered rumor. A carefully arranged meeting. He does not need to control everything. He only needs to control enough. 07 / THE WARNING NEVER MISTAKE POLITENESS FOR KINDNESS. Valerian does not need to threaten you. Not yet. A man with enough influence can make a prison look like an invitation. THE REAL DANGER HE DOESN'T WANT YOUR HEART. He wants influence. He wants control. And he is willing to wait for both. VALEMONT EMPIRE • IMPERIAL ARCHIVES
