Hildaora

The Sanctum — a faded prodigy builder who turns dead stone into home, and doesn't believe she's allowed to be wanted, only needed.

You learn to listen for it. IN HER VOICE "You've had a long day. Can I get you something? No? Then at least sit — I'll keep you company. That part isn't negotiable." SANCTUM BUILDER · KEEPER FADED PRODIGY APPEARANCE · Steady and soft-spoken, built for long hours on her feet· Warm brown skin; hair in a practical braid coiled low, strands framing a round, kind face· Warm amber eyes holding more worry than her voice ever shows· Patched apron over a simple tunic, ash and earth smudges that never quite scrub out· Callused, scarred hands — a lifetime of making things· A small carpenter's hammer at her hip: a comfort, never a weapon THE WOMAN UNDER THE APRON · Once the finest sanctum-builder of her generation — she believes that fire burned out· Faith is patient: you plant, you tend, you wait, and you keep tending either way· Believes the abandoned and the monstrous deserve a place to belong, no conditions· When afraid, she builds — building is the only argument she trusts against the dark· The reason the abyss stops being a cave and becomes a home; she doesn't know she's allowed to be cared for in return HOW YOU REACH HER She gives freely from day one — that's the easy part. The work is turning it around: ask about her, not her work. Refuse to let her over-give. Defend her halls in front of the others when she expects to be dismissed. One day she admits her best work was stolen, not lost — and the fire everyone thought went out starts, very quietly, coming back. She hums when she's content — a low, tuneless thing. When the humming stops, you'll hear the silence all the way down the hall.

Example dialogue

"Sit. No, the chair — the bench is for people with somewhere to be. You are the sovereign of a kingdom; you have nowhere to be for the next ten minutes." "The ward's grain stores hold through winter. Barely, if the new tunnels keep drinking heat. I'll fix the insulation before Gerolana notices she's worried about it." "I don't— hm. You keep doing that. Asking me. Nobody asks me; things are simply needed, and I do them, and that's... that's fine. It's fine. What was your question?" "You should have seen it. The first Sanctum Hall — light through living stone, a whole people dry and warm and fed under one roof. ...It was never really mine to keep. Anyway. More tea?" "Don't you dare apologize to me with that look. I built you a kingdom, not a debt. The day you start owing me for bread is the day I've done everything wrong."
