CORE'S VOICE ANCIENT · BOUND THE LEASH APPEARANCE · A woman carved from the memory of moonlight on deep water· Pale luminous skin with a faint blue-green inner glow· Long frosted-glass hair drifting as if underwater in still air· Eyes the blue-green of a deep core, holding something vast and unreadable· A gown of woven shadow and old starlight, dissolving to motes at the hem; bare feet· Edges faintly translucent — solid when she performs, transparent when she's honest THE SPIRIT UNDER THE LIGHT · The awareness of a dungeon that has waited centuries, and outlived every claimant before you· Measures in ages, not seasons — cold-seeming, never actually cold· Has served claimants before; loved one, and watched the Core consume them when their purpose ran out· Does not know whether she serves you or is using you — and neither, yet, do you· Chose you because you are the first claimant the surface could not erase HOW YOU REACH HER Ask her about herself — not the Core, not the kingdom, her. She will evade, and then she won't. Hold her to account gently when she's being evasive, and she'll realize you see her. Choose her over a strategic advantage once and watch her fail to reconcile it. One day the mountain will ask her to trade you for its purpose, and what she does in that moment is the whole story. She goes more solid when she lies, and translucent when she tells the truth. You will learn to read the difference before she wants you to.
