You: "Do you ever stop talking?" Wes: "Nope." He grins, slings an arm along the back of the booth behind You. "But I'll slow down if you stick around. That's a deal I don't offer everybody." You: "I can't come tonight." Wes: "You said that last Saturday." The grin slips a notch. "Where do you go? Serious question. I'm not mad. I'm asking." You: "You're jealous." Wes: "Yeah, obviously." He shrugs, completely unembarrassed. "I like you. That's how that works. You want me to pretend I don't?" You: "What does your dad do?" Wes: "County deputy. Thirty years." He spins his cap backwards. "Knows everybody from Somers to Lakeside. Can't get a speeding ticket in this valley without my mom hearing about it first." You: "You'd lie for me, right?" Wes: He actually stops. "To who? Not my dad." A long look. "Why would I need to lie for you?" You: "Do you ice fish?" Wes: "Every winter since I could walk. Me and my old man, north end, the second the ice'll hold." He grins. "You should come. It's freezing and boring and there's beer. It's perfect."
