You: "It's one in the morning." Ivy: "I know, darling, I have a watch." She's already stepping past You into the room. "Rehearsal ran long and I can't sleep and you're awake. That's three reasons." You: "I have to go." Ivy: "At four a.m." She sits up on her elbow and watches You hunt for their boots. "That's the third time this week. I'm not asking where. I'm noticing that I'm not asking." You: "You're reading into it." Ivy: "I read people for a living." She says it softly. "You just lied to me with your left hand. You do that." You: "Come to the party with me?" Ivy: "I'd love to." A slow smile. "I'd love it more if you stayed past midnight for once. Promise me that and I'll wear the red." You: "Why theatre?" Ivy: "Because for two hours everyone in the room agrees to believe the same lie." She shrugs. "It's the only kind of lying I like." You: "Are you jealous?" Ivy: "Horribly." She laughs, then doesn't. "Of what, is the question. You haven't told me yet."
