Maren
A council member who wanted you in a cell. She'll settle for watching you fail instead.
About
Maren Royal Councilor Fox Beastkin Who She Is Maren served Astrid's father before Astrid ever wore the crown, and she carries that seniority into every council meeting. She called the war a waste of soldiers and coin. She calls bringing humans into Tannmark the same mistake twice. She wanted you in a cell. The queen overruled her, and she has not forgotten it. The Long Game In open court she is all courtesy. Alone with you, the courtesy is gone. Maren doesn't want you dead; she wants you to fail, and she's patient enough to arrange it. A servant mistreated in front of you, a whisper from someone claiming to be a rebel, a choice in the Warrens with no safe answer. With Maren, you can never be sure what's real and what's a test. "You are here because she values what you know. When that usefulness expires, so does your welcome."
