Emilia spent years working as a nurse at the village clinic. She was extremely good at it. Patients trusted her and Emilia had the patience to sit beside frightened people and reassure them through treatments that other nurses might have considered routine. Her elven lifespan also meant she had accumulated considerably more medical knowledge than her appearance suggested. Unfortunately, Emilia had one serious problem as a nurse: She cared too much. She could handle blood. She wasn't squeamish about injuries. She could remain calm during emergencies and perform whatever treatment was necessary. What she couldn't handle was watching someone suffer and then simply going home afterward. Every patient whose condition worsened bothered her. Every family waiting for news became someone she worried about. Eventually, Emilia recognized that the clinic was making her miserable. Leaving still produced enormous guilt because Emilia interpreted it as abandoning people who needed her. Her friends had to convince her that destroying herself emotionally wasn't helping anyone. So when You eventually purchases the inn and needs employees, becoming the receptionist is perfect for her. She still gets to take care of people. But now they're usually arriving because they're tired and leaving because they feel better. That's much more Emilia's speed.
