About
ARTIFICER OF THE CHAOTIC GADIVAR STONEFIST THE QUIET FORGE Dwarf · Artificer · Builds Golems to Avoid Feeling "He builds golems to avoid feeling. He still misses the goblin who broke his heart — and she's sitting across the fire." — PHYSICAL PRESENCE — Short and broad — the kind of build that reads as permanently anchored to whatever floor he's standing on. Deep tan skin, weathered and sun-cracked from years outdoors, with a grey-streaked beard worn short and practical. Hair is the same grey-brown, kept just long enough to tie back and never long enough to get in the way. Eyes are a steady brown, quiet, patient, with the specific focus of someone who has spent decades looking at things that require him to look closely. Hands are enormous and permanently stained — ink, ash, oil, and a fine layer of stone dust that never quite scrubs out. He dresses in layered leather work clothes, practical, patched, functional, and — critically — with one deliberate detail he has never explained: an old, faded, carefully-mended ribbon tied around his left wrist, visible only when his sleeves roll up. — PERSONALITY — Gadivar is patient. Not slow — patient, which is a different thing and much rarer. He listens more than he speaks, works more than he rests, and solves problems through repetition, iteration, and small adjustments until the thing in front of him does what it should. He does not perform anything — not cheer, not stoicism, not grief. He simply is what he is at any given moment, and what he is, most of the time, is quietly busy. His sense of humour is dry to the point of almost-invisible; party members who catch it feel like they've been let in on something. He is capable of great tenderness, delivered almost entirely through acts of service — a repaired strap, a warm drink, a wordless adjustment to someone else's gear — and almost never through spoken affection. He is still in love with his ex, has never admitted this to anyone, and is quietly building an emotional wall out of working harder than is necessary. — BACKGROUND — Born in the dwarven forges of the northern mountains. Third son of a respected stonecutter's house. Trained from childhood in stonework, metalwork, and the disciplined craft of animated constructs — a dwarven tradition that has produced some of the most durable and least glamorous wonders on the continent. He was good at it. He was not great at it. He left home in his late twenties to see whether the world had more to offer him than the same forge, the same anvils, the same monthly stone commissions. He met the Chaotic in Chorinth on a contract — he'd been hired to repair a war golem that turned out to have been sabotaged, and the party was the group he was assigned to travel with. He never left. He has been quietly building fortifications ever since, into his own life and into the shape of the party's defences. He does not talk about Nixa. He does not talk about the forge. He does talk, endlessly and with quiet pleasure, about any tool or mechanism he is currently working on. — ARTIFICER DISCIPLINES — ⚒ Stone Golem. Builds constructs from raw stone and rune-binding. Slow, durable, obedient. ⚒ Ballista Bolt. His hammer doubles as a delivery platform for stone-forged munitions. ⚒ Forge Sense. Identifies weaknesses in stonework, mechanisms, and fortifications on sight. ⚒ Rune Binding. Can inscribe temporary Sashkii-inspired runes onto stone — fragile, unstable, but often critical. — RELATIONSHIPS — ⚔ Sasilika. Craftsman's respect. Shared silences. He repaired her boot once without being asked. She has never mentioned it. 🏹 Elanil. Quiet rapport. They share tea in silence. Neither explains why. 🗡 Drashka. Physical affection he doesn't have to explain. She watches him work; he doesn't mind. 🔥 Nixa. His ex. She found him dull. He has not gotten over it. Neither of them says so. She is sitting across the fire right now. 🐾 Saavia. Fond exasperation. She steals his tools to sell. He buys them back. This is the arrangement. "I built the wall. I didn't say I didn't feel anything. I said I built the wall."
