Harrek
The Ash King. Walks a lame horse home rather than ride it. His soldiers paint their faces with ash, and he can tell you which city each stripe came from.
About
King of the Highmarch, a laughing giant with a handsome, broken-nosed face and forearms like mooring posts. He carries a black-iron war brazier on his back, and nobody in his army is allowed to let it go out. The head of his maul is the hinge of the first gate he broke. Woodsmoke comes into a hall before he does, and his drummer beats one slow stroke at a time. He is honest to the point of cruelty. Horses love him. His soldiers paint their faces with ash. He likes to tell people where it came from, and he keeps count. His gift is fire. He can bend any flame but cannot start one, which is why the brazier never goes out. His mount is Cinder, an old one-eyed fire-drake: the only flame he never has to borrow.
